Join us on August 27, 2026 for poetry and community! Arrow Broken Poetry Collective is honored to welcome Michael Kleber-Diggs as our featured artist. Michael Kleber-Diggs is a poet, essayist, and literary critic. His debut poetry collection, Worldly Things (Milkweed Editions, 2021), won the Max Ritvo Poetry Prize. Among other places, Kleber-Diggs’ writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Poem-a-Day, Poetry Daily, Poetry Northwest, Potomac Review, Hunger Mountain, Memorious, and various anthologies. Since 2016, Michael has been an instructor with the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop. He also teaches Creative Writing in Augsburg University’s low-res MFA program and at Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists. He lives in St. Paul. The free event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the The Village Hall in Marine on St Croix. Open Mic will begin at 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to share their work and will be allotted three minutes to perform. August’s theme is Wóbdiheic’iya-Positiveness. This one-hour community cleanup highlights the connection between everyday actions and the health of our environment. By removing litter from parks and public spaces, volunteers help prevent pollution, protect wildlife, and contribute to a healthier ecosystem. The event includes a short welcome, 30-45 minutes of cleanup, and a group photo celebrating the impact we made together. All equipment will be provided—just bring comfortable shoes and a willingness to help care for the place we call home.

Log Run Half Marathon

The Log Run Half Marathon, 10 Mile, 10K and 5K race originated back in 1997. A superb, mostly downhill race gently descending into historic Stillwater, Minnesota, it's been known as one of the fastest courses around. The scenic route brings runners into historic downtown Stillwater from the north passing parksand farms on rural roads with bluff views along the way showcasing the Federally protected St. Croix River and surrounding valley.

Lester Batiste: Featured Author and Open Mic (Theme: Wóokiya—Being Helpful)

Join us on September 24, 2026 for poetry and community! Arrow Broken Poetry Collective is honored to welcome Lester Batiste as our featured artist. Lester Batiste is a savage writer in living color who writes for political, social, economic change and Black futures. Born in Chicago, IL, he holds an MFA from the University of Southern Maine's Stonecoast writing program, and an M.S.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania. Influenced by Gwendolyn Brooks, Carl Sandburg, and Toni Morrison, Lester strives to weave traditional forms and techniques with the vibrancy of African American experience and speech. Rich details are enhanced by the musical tones from Lester’s childhood on the Southside of Chicago to his present on the Northside of Minneapolis. Lester's work has appeared in print in The Stone House Anthology (2014), the Southern Griot Journal (2012), Tulane Review (2017), A Garden of Black Joy (2020), and digitally in the Brushfire Literary and Arts Journal (2020), Hidden Peak Press (2022), The Indianapolis Review (2023), and The Bitchin’ Kitsch (2023). In 2025, he received the BIPOC Emerging Writer award from Blue Earth Review. Lester’s debut poetry collection, Angel and Night’s Youngest, is forthcoming with the Black Spring Press Group (UK). Creative Darning and Mending with Riley Kleve

Students can bring some of their own clothes to darn and mend using tools and supplies provided by instructor Riley Kleve. Students will learn to select materials, use various tools, and care for mended and darned clothing in class. Students will leave with new techniques for beautiful mends that add color, pattern, and durability to their clothing. Schedule: During this short class, students will get an introduction to methods of mending and darning that bring individuality to their clothing. There will be a balance of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice! For an additional $20, students have the option of bringing a mending disc home to continue their repairs. Prerequisites/Skill Level/Age Requirements: No prior experience required. Ages 18+ Register on EventBrite to guarantee your spot! Cancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. Under 3 weeks before the event, no refunds. Riley Kleve is a nonbinary textile artist and educator creating collaborative work in community-led settings. Their work in weaving, handspinning, and embroidery draws from history to create a queerer vision for the future of textiles. Some recent highlights include weaving felted pins and inviting viewers to name them based on gender feelings they evoke, creating a co-woven tapestry with over 110 attendees at a dusk-till-dawn arts festival, and facilitating drop-in LGBT craft nights. Riley has a self-directed BA in craft from Hampshire College and is a 2024-26 Resident Artisan at North House Folk School.

Fish & Foliage on the Namekagon Paddle

Paddle down the Namekagon River to spot some fish while surrounded by the beautiful fall foliage. Have you ever seen a fish quickly dart beneath you as you paddled and wish you knew its species? On this paddle, we will provide the tools and instruction to help you be more confident in your identifications. Meet your Wild Rivers Conservancy Paddle Guides! Owen has been planning and leading events as the Outdoor Program Coordinator at the Conservancy since 2024. Previously he has worked as an outdoor guide leading canoe and backpacking expeditions throughout North America, and as an adaptive ski instructor in the mountains of Colorado. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and trained in risk management for a multitude of outdoor settings. October is the Conservancy's Outdoor Program Specialist and an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. He now resides in the St. Croix valley and has years of experience guiding throughout his favorite places along the Riverway. Details: This is a fully supported paddle. Each fall, thousands of raptors and other birds fly south to their wintering grounds in the southern U.S. and beyond. This two-day class with Natalie Norman focuses on making a kjolväskor (a skirt pocket or purse) featuring appliqué and embroidered designs. Swedish kjolväskor were part of the Swedish folk dräkt (folk dress) and were used to carry oats or salt so the cows would follow the herder home. Today, they may hold a cell phone or car keys. This practical decorative bag serves as a reminder of heritage and as a focal point of beauty, as it carries your belongings Suggested Age: 15 years old to adult. Bird Hike at Pine Point Regional Park

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced birder, these hikes are a great way to get outdoors, listen to the sounds of nature, and learn to identify the birds that call the St. Croix Valley home. Participants also have the opportunity to contribute to citizen science data collection by completing bird count surveys with your guide.
