Birding By Sound on the St. Croix Paddle
Presented by Wild Rivers Conservancy at Osceola Landing Shafer, MN
Are you wild about birds? Join us for a morning on the wild and scenic St. Croix River listening and looking for spring migrants making their way north. We’ll search the skies, riparian zone, and waters for Great blue heron, green heron, belted kingfisher, bald eagle, swallows, osprey, and more. This fully supported paddle will provide an educational aspect to bird identification by sound. Meet your Wild Rivers Conservancy Paddle Guides! Owen has been planning and leading events as the Outdoor Program Coordinator at the Conservancy since 2024. Previously he has worked as an outdoor guide leading canoe and backpacking expeditions throughout North America, and as an adaptive ski instructor in the mountains of Colorado. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and trained in risk management for a multitude of outdoor settings. October is the Conservancy's Outdoor Program Specialist and an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. He now resides in the St. Croix valley and has years of experience guiding throughout his favorite places along the Riverway. Details: This is a fully supported paddle. You will be provided with kayaks, paddles, and PFDs, as well as a shuttle service from your vehicle to start the paddle. Embroidered Needlebook Craft Workshop

There are hundreds of stitch variations. Using different threads – silk vs. wool vs. cotton vs. synthetics – produces different looks. Once you become familiar with the basic stitches, you can make your own embroidered needle book to store needles for your next project. This class is for adults and 16+ year old youth, and costs $55 per person. The class fee includes all the materials (handouts with instructions, felt, embroidery floss, needles, and scissors).
