The Art of Nature Journaling with Watercolor

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, this hands-on workshop will introduce you to the art of observing and documenting nature through watercolor painting and journaling. Guided by teaching artist Lauren Hefty, participants will learn techniques for sketching, watercolor painting, color mixing, composition, and recording observations in a nature journal. During the indoor instructional session, you'll gain practical skills and inspiration before heading outdoors to explore the beauty of Interstate Park's scenic landscapes, river views, rock formations, forests, and wildlife. Nature journaling is a wonderful way to slow down, connect with the natural world, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment. Through a combination of art, observation, and creativity, you'll create your own watercolor journal pages while learning how to capture the colors, textures, and stories found in nature. All supplies are provided, making this an excellent opportunity to try watercolor journaling for the first time or expand your existing artistic skills. Starting on McKusick Road and finishing at Pioneer Park, runners will roll right into the energy of the parade. Fast, fun, and built for the whole community- don’t miss it! Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly fish but don’t have gear? Are you beginning your fly fishing journey but can’t quite nail a perfect cast? Let Wild Rivers Conservancy and the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway reveal the mysteries of fly fishing to you! By the end of this dry land course, you’ll have all the knowledge you’ll need to catch your first fish on the fly! Thanks to a grant from the National Park Foundation, we will provide all the necessary equipment and teach you the basics such as knot tying, fly casting, wading safety, fish species identification, regulations & ethics. All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and water bottle! This course is recommended for 13 years old and older. Meet your instructor: October Yates is an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. With help from the National Park Foundation, we’ll have everything your family needs to catch your first fish. Learn fishing basics such as equipment use, fish species identification, fishing regulations & ethics. You’ll even get to try out some Junior Ranger Angler activities! All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and a water bottle! This event is open to all families and first-time anglers. No fishing license? No problem! Summer Concert on the Terrace: Minnesota State Band

The Minnesota State Band is the Official Band of the State of Minnesota and has been in existence for over 125 years (since 1898). The band is the only remaining State Band in the United States. While at one time the band received funding from the State of Minnesota, the band is now operated as a non-profit organization with an all-volunteer membership. The Band has represented the State of Minnesota on six International Goodwill Tours since 1986. While international travel is important, the band sees its primary mission as providing high quality music to the residents of Minnesota. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be held inside the Margaret Rivers Room. Special thanks to the Stillwater Public Library Foundation for sponsoring the library’s Summer Reading Program and this special series of concerts on the terrace. Their generous support helps bring the community together through music, learning, and shared experiences all summer long. Other concerts in the series include Choral Concert with Valle de Croix and Great Northern Union on Thursday, June 18 and Valley Concert Winds on Thursday, July 9.

Music in the Park - Tommy Bentz Band

Tommy Bentz’s sound gives credence to the fact that many faces and different genres of music have allowed him to create his own sound: one that blends ideals from many flavors of music into one (kind of like at the ice cream store he managed as a teen). The distinct movement, layering, and syncopation of his style, though intense, is immediately accessible to the listener. Some may say that Tommy Bentz's greatest asset is his confident and mature electric slide guitar style; others will argue that his insightful lyrics and adept layering of sound are what keep them coming back to hear him play again and again. Regardless, with three full length albums under his belt - each a landmark of musical growth in a coming-of-age fashion, Tommy Bentz represents a man with spirit, drive, thoughtful journeys, and musical ability that so many musicians strive to achieve.

Join us on July 23rd, 2026 for poetry and community! Arrow Broken Poetry Collective is honored to welcome Su Love as our featured artist. Su Love’s long career as a choreographer and dancer informs her artistic aesthetic and poetry practice. Her six published books of poetry include Weight of Light, a Pushcart Editors’ Book Prize nominee; Buddha, Proof a Minnesota Book Award finalist; and The Memoir of Mona Lisa, published in Ireland by Salmon Poetry. Published chapbooks include Wild Hush and Unamuno Author Series #22 (Madrid). Journals and anthologies in which Su's poems appear include Collecting Life, a Colorado Book Award Finalist, and Queer Nature Anthology, a Lambda Literary Award finalist. Su’s poetry has also been honored by the Jane Kenyon Poetry Prize and the Joy Harjo Poetry Award. Su is deeply grateful for the many small presses, editors, production teams, and curators who have helped deliver her poems to readers in beautiful vessels. Su is also deeply grateful for supportive grants and residencies from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Metropolitan Arts Council, Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, Tofte Lake Center, Pine Needles/St. Croix Watershed Research Station, Red Wing Arts, Lake Region Arts Council, Duvall Arts Council, Vermont Studio Center, Desperate Literature, and American Space Madrid. River of Resilience: History of the St. Croix Paddle

The St. Croix is flowing with history that shaped the river we love today. On this paddle you will learn about the role of the river in the human history of the valley, the challenges presented by humans to the river’s ecology, and how those challenges were overcome to produce a landscape worthy of a National Park. Meet your Wild Rivers Conservancy Paddle Guides! Owen has been planning and leading events as the Outdoor Program Coordinator at the Conservancy since 2024. Previously he has worked as an outdoor guide leading canoe and backpacking expeditions throughout North America, and as an adaptive ski instructor in the mountains of Colorado. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and trained in risk management for a multitude of outdoor settings. October is the Conservancy's Outdoor Program Specialist and an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. He now resides in the St. Croix valley and has years of experience guiding throughout his favorite places along the Riverway. Details: This is a fully supported paddle.
