Beginning Floral Embroidery Workshop

Bring your creativity to Gammelgården as you learn about and create your own crop art canvas. Led by Ann Gentry, an award-winning crop artist, create an image using various shapes, colors, and sizes of seeds, legumes, and grains. In this hands-on workshop (which includes all supplies), you will learn how to create a design, prepare the canvas, and apply the seeds and grains to make your unique image. This class is designed for beginner and experienced crafters who are 15+ years old. Solar Jar Natural Dyeing Workshop

This two-hour class will include eco printing with steam and fresh botanicals on mordanted bandanas. While the steam sets the cloth, participants will learn how to use the same fresh botanicals to create solar dye jars, which they’ll take home with them. At the end of class, participants will unveil the completed eco-printed cloth and take home a unique eco-printed bandana as well. Class Fee: $55, which includes all tools, materials, and instruction from a Textile Center teaching artist. The registration link will be posted in mid-April. Water & Stone: Geology on the St. Croix Paddle

The geologic story of the St. Croix River is rich with history and one of the best ways to see for yourself is from the seat of a kayak. Join us as we paddle along this stretch of geologic importance where we’ll witness the iconic Dalles of the St. Croix and learn how water and stone have come together to create this natural beauty. Meet your Wild Rivers Conservancy Paddle Guides! Owen has been planning and leading events as the Outdoor Program Coordinator at the Conservancy since 2024. Previously he has worked as an outdoor guide leading canoe and backpacking expeditions throughout North America, and as an adaptive ski instructor in the mountains of Colorado. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and trained in risk management for a multitude of outdoor settings. October is the Conservancy's Outdoor Program Specialist and an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. He now resides in the St. Croix valley and has years of experience guiding throughout his favorite places along the Riverway. Details: This is a fully supported paddle. Fix-It Clinic- Stillwater Public Library

You will get support to disassemble, troubleshoot, and fix your item. Bring any parts and helpful supplies. There is a two (2) item limit. The event format is first come, first serve. Expect some wait time and plan accordingly. Last items accepted at 1:30 p.m. What to Bring You must be able to carry items into the building yourself — no oversized items. Make sure your items are clean. You are expected to work with fixers to learn repair skills. Feel free to bring any tools, parts, manuals, and supplies you think might help with the job. However, our volunteers have plenty of tools. Electronic items like laptops, tablets and phones often require specialized tools and skills. We cannot guarantee that these items will be able to be repaired at Fix-It Clinics. View the list of accepted items.

Embroidered and Appliquéd Pillow Workshop

Join a short course where we will combine embroidery with appliqué to finish a small decorative pillow top. Choose from 1 of 3 apron designs, each displaying a fabric from the Dalarna area. It is said that “clothing is to clothe someone, but a costume tells a story.” While stitching our project, we will learn some fun history of Swedish folk dress. Suggested age group: 12 years to adult. Youth 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Materials fee of $20.00 includes: – 10×10” pillow form – Fabric for front and back of pillow – Trim for belt – Embroidery floss – 1 needle – Pattern Natalie Norman has been part of the cultural needlework community for over 20 years, participating as a vendor, demonstrator, and teacher at venues such as Gammelgården Museum, American Swedish Institute, and Marine Mills Folk School. Sponsored by the Swedish Embassy in Washington, DC, her embroidered work was featured in a traveling exhibition that visited five major American cities and concluded with a 15-month tour in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2019, Natalie received a fellowship from the American Scandinavian Foundation to study a traditional form of folk art. Courses in fritt broderi at Sätergläntan in Dalarna and påsöm at the Mora Folk School have since deepened her embroidery practice and strengthened her desire to share this passion with others.
