Film Screening “A Black Heart Unbroken”

Presented by Washington County Historical Society at Warden's House Museum Stillwater, MN

The Washington County Historical Society is proud to present the short film “A Black Heart Unbroken.” This 14 minute thriller was shot on location at the Warden’s House Museum in Stillwater, MN. Local filmmakers chose this historic setting for their macabre tale…A woman on the run from her dark past finds refuge at a creepy inn filled with broken things, run by a reclusive innkeeper with an unnatural desire to destroy what is not already broken. Now you can be part of the audience where the film was made! Please join us for a free screening of “A Black Heart Unbroken” on Saturday, September 26 at the Warden’s House Museum at 602 N. Main Street in Stillwater. Screenings will begin at 7:00 and 8:00pm. Guests can enjoy popcorn and lemonade, plus a tour of the museum. Director/producer and actress Jennifer Prettyman, producer/cinematographer and editor Sean Q. King, and actress Gwen Ruhoff will be there to discuss the movie and the film making process. Visual storytelling can inspire imagination and connect the world through the medium of motion pictures. Movies are an art form. “A Black Heart Unbroken” has been shown at several local film festivals, including Northstar Uncut, Flix By Chix, and Detroit Horror Con. With Shadow Puppetry a form that elicits the fantastic, the humorous in a magical and fun filled way. Welcome to Shadow Puppetry! Shadow Puppetry is an ancient yet contemporary form of animation. Using cut silhouettes, light, a screen and sound, students will learn basic puppet fabrication techniques, develop content with the goal to create a short table top Shadow Play for an in-class performance. Invite your family and friends to be amazed and moved by your Show! The class will be in four 2 hour weekly sessions. I: Fabrication Techniques. The possibilities of content and story. Imprints - 2026 Autumn Featured Artists CAB Art’s House Gallery We are pleased to welcome the work of three new featured artists to Art’s House Gallery this autumn. The soft pastel work of Lorie Spiegel, photographic portraits of Miguel Joven, and the functional ceramics of Katie Reeves all seem to echo the transitory qualities that permeate the air this time of year in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Each artist renders their varied media with tender, contemplative care resulting in imagery that feels as if it may just slip away with the season. Hurry in to Art’s House Gallery before it’s gone! Imprints will be on view September 24 through October 23. Our “Meet the Artists” reception will be held on Thursday, October 1 from 6:00–8:00 PM. Creative Darning and Mending with Riley Kleve

Presented by Gammelgården Museum of Scandia at Gammelgården Museum Scandia, MN

Students can bring some of their own clothes to darn and mend using tools and supplies provided by instructor Riley Kleve. Students will learn to select materials, use various tools, and care for mended and darned clothing in class. Students will leave with new techniques for beautiful mends that add color, pattern, and durability to their clothing. Schedule: During this short class, students will get an introduction to methods of mending and darning that bring individuality to their clothing. There will be a balance of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice! For an additional $20, students have the option of bringing a mending disc home to continue their repairs. Prerequisites/Skill Level/Age Requirements: No prior experience required. Ages 18+ Register on EventBrite to guarantee your spot! Cancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. Under 3 weeks before the event, no refunds. Riley Kleve is a nonbinary textile artist and educator creating collaborative work in community-led settings. Their work in weaving, handspinning, and embroidery draws from history to create a queerer vision for the future of textiles. Some recent highlights include weaving felted pins and inviting viewers to name them based on gender feelings they evoke, creating a co-woven tapestry with over 110 attendees at a dusk-till-dawn arts festival, and facilitating drop-in LGBT craft nights. Riley has a self-directed BA in craft from Hampshire College and is a 2024-26 Resident Artisan at North House Folk School.
