They Make Me Happy Every Day

I wish I knew the name of the young man who shared his story with me during Earth Day 2019 in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. ( Clear Lake is the home of Senator Gaylord Nelson, Father of Earth Day.) Now in middle school, the young man told me that his elementary school teacher had given him a tree to plant in honor of Earth Day. He liked doing it so much that he asked his father for more trees, which they planted together. “Now I see them outside my window and they make me happy every day,” he said.
