Earth Day 2020
April 22, 2020 was the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. This global celebration marks the anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970, which gave voice to an emerging environmental consciousness across the nation. Senator Gaylord Nelson, the Father of Earth Day, was born and raised in Clear Lake, WI, and credits his love for the environment to the boyhood time he spent on the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers.
To honor this significant milestone, North Woods and Waters promoted a watershed-wide St. Croix Earth Day 2020 year of special celebrations, programs and environmental action to honor the legacy of Senator Nelson and other environmental heroes. Organizations throughout the watershed are mobilizing now to use this milestone to provide education, sponsor events, and encourage voluntarism.
Engage Youth
A grant from the Hugh J. Andersen Foundation is providing free Kids for Saving Earth classroom materials and “Rock the World” Concert kits for schools and youth organizations in the watershed. Help empower the youth you serve to take action in their homes, schools, and communities.
